    Quick Facts about Qormi

Qormi is Malta's bread capital, and the smell of fresh loaves baking drifts through the streets in the early morning. It's home to dozens of traditional bakeries, many still using wood-fired ovens. Every September, the town hosts Lejl f'Qormi, an evening festival celebrating its baking heritage with tastings, music and dancing.

Qormi's history stretches back to the Knights of St John, and some streets still have their original layouts. The parish churches of St George and St Sebastian are central to community life, each with its own festa. Outside of these lively events, Qormi has a more practical feel, with markets, workshops and warehouses serving the island.

The area is surprisingly rich in greenery. In spring, the surrounding fields are dotted with chamomile and crown daisies, while urban gardens show off colourful geraniums and petunias. Residents often keep potted basil and mint outside their doors, adding a fresh scent to the narrow streets. For visitors, Qormi offers an authentic, down-to-earth experience and a few excellent bakeries worth seeking out.
