Quick Facts about Zebbug

Żebbuġ, whose name means "olive" in Maltese, has a long history tied to agriculture and the Knights of St John. The town's main square is dominated by the parish church of St Philip, and its festa is one of the most elaborate on the island, with fireworks, music and street decorations.

Historically, Żebbuġ was known for olive cultivation, and while large groves are less common today, you can still find olive trees scattered through the surrounding countryside. In spring, the area is dotted with wild fennel, chamomile and red poppies. Many houses keep potted basil and geraniums by their doorways, continuing a tradition of blending fragrance with welcome.

The town also has a strong link to art and crafts, with several small workshops producing traditional Maltese lace and ceramics. Wandering its streets gives a sense of a place that balances heritage with everyday life, making it worth more than just a quick pass-through.
