    Quick Facts about Haz-Zabbar

Haz-Zabbar, often just called Zabbar, is known as the 'City of Sanctuary' thanks to its long-standing devotion to Our Lady of Graces. Pilgrims once travelled here on foot from across Malta, and you can still sense that heritage in the quiet streets around the parish church. The Sanctuary Museum holds an unusual collection of maritime relics, including model ships and paintings, reflecting the town's connection to sailors and the sea.

Every September, the festa for Our Lady of Graces fills the streets with lights, music and fireworks. Locals take pride in decorating their homes, and the celebrations often spill over into the early hours. Outside of festa season, Zabbar has a more laid-back feel, with little shops, shaded squares and coffee spots where the pace is slow.

Flower lovers will notice the bright oleander hedges lining the roads, particularly vivid in summer. In gardens and on balconies, geraniums and marigolds provide splashes of colour. Come spring, wild fennel and tiny daisies appear along the paths leading out to the surrounding countryside, reminding visitors that even Malta's busier towns have nature close at hand.
